“Shoot for the Stars”

The annual Region 3 fall conference for 2012 was held at the Kent Career Technical Center in Grand Rapids Michigan on October 26, 2012. The theme for the conference centered on aiming high when reaching out to others and sharing our talents.

The location of the conference was moved to the Kent Career Technical Center campus this year. In place of a keynote speaker, we offered four longer breakout sessions with attendees choosing to participate in three sessions each. One session included a wonderful tour of the Kent Career Technical Center programs.  Other breakout sessions offered were Educational Technology, back by popular demand for more information on connecting with our digital learners, presented by Ron Houtman; Help! I don’t get it, a fun and interactive lesson teaching us strategies to use with the teenage brain, presented by Ruth Dixon; and Take a Virtual Walk in Your Student’s Shoes, a simulation experience of what it might be like to have a disability, presented by Mary Hamberg and Mindy Polak.

The conference concluded with a delicious Italian lunch and door prizes. The change in conference location and format added a freshness and interesting level of excitement this year. We look forward to expanding the possibilities to collaborate with our MOSPA partners in Region 3 next fall!
